Abstract

1,057,799. Fluid-pressure servomotor systems. ROBERTSHAW CONTROLS CO. Aug. 10, 1965 [Aug. 11, 1964 No. 34224/65. Heading G3P. In a pneumatic thermostat, a fall in the ambient temperature causes a bi-metal flapper 68 to seat against a nozzle 62, supplied via restriction 18 from a supply chamber PS, thereby causing the pressure in a chamber PP to rise and lift a diaphragm 20 to rotate a lever 42 about its pivot 52, such rotation unseating a valve 34 to admit supply pressure to a chamber PB communicating at 30 with a device for varying the ambient temperature. The increased pressure in chamber PB is communicated to a chamber PF where it acts via diaphragm 26, lever 78 and spring 86 to provide a feedback to the flapper. If the pressure in chamber PP decreases, the accompanying clockwise rotation of lever 42 unseats a valve 40 to vent chamber PB. The flapper is pivoted at 71 and a cam 76 is rotatable to vary the set point temperature via a pin 72 and lever 70. In the practical embodiment of Figs. 2-7 (not shown), a U-shaped spring 150 is located between the flapper and lever 70 and serves to ensure that the end of the flapper is always parallel to the nozzle when it engages the latter. A resilient extention 134 of the feedback lever 78 (Fig. 5) engages a clip 138 which is adjustable to vary the force exerted by the lever on the flapper.
