[Also in Division B4] A hedge clipper comprises a pair of toothed blades 10, 11 secured by pins 64, 65 to connecting rods 13, 15 offset portions 17, 19 of which are connected, by studs 46 with spherical heads 48, to opposite sides of a drive sleeve 41 mounted, by means of a ball bearing, on an obliquely-disposed crank 40 on a driving head 39 mounted on a shaft 31 driven by a motor shaft 35 so that on rotation of the motor shaft the blades reciprocate in opposite directions relative to one another. The blades are retained in face-to-face relationship by means of a pin 67 secured to blade 10 and supporting a washer which engages bevelled edges in a slot in blade 11. The upper and lower faces of the connecting rods are provided with recesses 54 engaged by balls 56 which also engage mating recesses in housing sections 20, 21. The pins may be mounted on spring elements (86, Figs. 10 to 13) secured to the connecting rods, the spring elements having associated therewith cranks 89 having cam portions 91 engageable by cams 84 on a slide 80 movable by a finger piece 82 to withdraw the pins from the blades, the slide in this position preventing closure of a switch for energizing the motor. Alternatively, the slide is movable by a trigger (104, Fig. 14) carrying the switch.
