(Cl. 3090) The invention relates to a hair clipping device fora dry shaving apparatus, in which at right angles to the engagement surface to be joined to the housing of the shaving apparatus a driving shaft with a coupling means directed towards the engagement surface is provided for driving a hair clipping cutter.
In some dry shaving apparatus, a comparatively weak motor is used with a high number of revolutions, the number of revolutions of the driving part for the hair clipping device housed in the shaving apparatus being too high for, the desired driving speed of the hair clipping device, while the arrangement of an intermediate driving mechanism for the driving of the hair clipping device in the shaving apparatus is not desirable owing to the space which it would occupy there and the loss of energy involved if this driving mechanism is allowed to rotate together with the driving of the shaving cutters when the hair clipping device is not used; alternatively a complication is experienced if this intermediate driving mechanism is to be switched in simultaneously with fixing the hair clipping device.
The invention provides a solution for this problem which is characterized in that the said driving shaft is an intermediate shaft which extends freely through an aperture of a driving plate of the hair clipping device, which shaft, on the side of the driving plate of the hair clipping device remote from the coupling means, is provided with a toothed rim which intermeshes with a toothed wheel located beside it, of which an eccentric, which in turn is again directed towards the driving plate of the hair clipping device, projects in a driving manner in a driving aperture of that driving plate.
In this manner one has not only housed the intermediate driving mechanism in the hair clipping device, but in addition the solution according to the invention meets in a favourable manner the desire to give the hair clipping device a fiat and little voluminous construction.
In the manner according to the invention the parts of the intermediate driving mechanism are divided at it were on both sides of the driving plate for the hair clipping cutter, that is to say, the driving path extends from the coupling means (for example a square cavity in the end of the driven shaft which is provided accessibly at the fixing side of the hair clipping device), through the driving plate towards the other side thereof, where immediately above the plate a toothed wheel is arranged, from there to the second toothed wheel on the same side of the plate and from there back to the eccentric arranged in an aperture of the plate which drives the plate.
In this manner it is possible to house the intermediate driving mechanism in the available height of the usually fiat housing of the hair clipping device.
In order that the invention may readily be carried into effect, it will now be described more fully, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which FIG. 1 diagrammatically shows a longitudinal cross-sectional view through a hair clipping device according to the invention.
FIG. 2 is a plan view of a driving plate thereof.
The engagement surface of the hair clipping device on a corresponding edge of the housing of the dry shaving apparatus is indicated by 1. A projecting edge 2 'falls 3,261,092 Patented July 19, 1966 within the fixing edge of that housing, a wing 3 serving for the connection.
The shaving apparatus, for which this hair clipping device is constructed, is provided with two upwardly projecting rotating spindles of which one, after fixing the hair clipping device, rotates freely in the cavity 4, whereas the other is coupled in a driving manner to a square head in a corresponding cavity 5 of a driving shaft 6 which is rotatably journalled on a spindle 7 which is embedded in the cap 8 of the hair clipping device of which the bottom plate is indicated by 9.
The connection means between the cap 8 and the bottom plate are not shown while also other particulars of the chosen shape, which are shown diagrammatically in the drawing, will be discussed only if they are of importance for the invention.
In the manner described the socket 6 forms a driving shaft of which the coupling means 5 is directed towards the engagement surface. This driving shaft 6 forms an intermediate shaft which extends freely through the aperture 10 of the driving plate 11 of the hair clipping device and is provided with a toothed rim 12 which intermeshes with a toothed wheel 13 located beside the pinion 12 with respect to the coupling cavity 5 on the other side of the driving plate 11, which Wheel 13 is rotatable on the spindle 14 which extend-s in parallel with the spindle 7 and is also secured in the cap 8 by embedding or pressing-in during the manufacture of said cap.
On the side of the driving plate an eccentric 15 is formed as a single unit with a toothed wheel 13, which fits rotatably in a slot 16 of the driving plate 11. At the one end of this slot passes over into the aperture 10, so that it is necessary only to stamp one part out of the plate. By the driving of the toothed wheels 12, 13 and through the eccentric 15 a reciprocating movement about I the pin connected in the bottom plate 9 is imparted to the driving plate 11, said pin 17 projecting in the aperture 18 of the driving plate. At the other end of the driving plate a disc-shaped member 19 is provided which projects between the limbs of the bifurcated rear end of the driven hair clipping cutter 20. The fixed hair clipping cutter co-operating therewith is indicated by 21. Since this transmission of the driving force to the hair clipping cutters is known per se, the construction of this set of cutters is not further shown in detail in the drawing. It is clear that the device according to the invention may also be used in an arrangement in which the driving of the hair clipping cutter is not effected through the intermediary of a driving plate but in which the driven cutter itself is elongated to the rear and is driven immediately.
It is clearly visible in the embodiment that as a result of the construction and the arrangement of the intermediate driving mechanism according to the invention a solution is obtained in which a flat and a housing of small volume for the hair clipping device is sufiicient and a separately switchable intermediate driving mechanism in the housing of the shaving apparatus is not necessary.
What is claimed is:
1. A hair clipper for a dry shaver provided with a rotary driving member and a shaver housing comprising a hair clipper housing having a surface for engagement with a corresponding surface on said shaver housing, relatively movable hair clipper blades in said hair clipper housing, an apertured driving plate in said hair clipper housing, means pivotally mounting said driving plate in said hair clipper housing, a drive shaft extending substantially at right angles to the plane of said engagement surface and passing freely through said aperture in said plate, said drive shaft having teeth on one side of the plate, means on the other side of said plate for coupling said drive shaft to said rotary driving member of the dry shaver for rotation therewith, a toothed wheel meshing with the teeth on said drive shaft, and an eccentric rotatable with said toothed wheel and engaging in said aperture of said plate whereby movement is imparted to the plate for operating at least one of said hair clipper blades, said driving plate being elongated with said aperture in the median portion thereof, said aperture being provided with an extension in the form of a slot, said eccentric being located in said slot and engaging the sides thereof.

A hair clipper for a dry shaver provided with a rotary driving member and a shaver housing comprising a hair clipper housing having a surface for engagement with a corresponding surface on said shaver housing, relatively movable hair clipper blades in said hair clipper housing, an apertured driving plate in said hair clipper housing, means pivotally mounting said driving plate in said hair clipper housing, a drive shaft extending substantially at right angles to the plane of said engagement surface and passing freely through said aperture in said plate, said drive shaft having teeth on one side of the plate, means on the other side of said plate for coupling said drive shaft to said rotary driving member of the dry shaver for rotation therewith, a toothed wheel meshing with the teeth on said drive shaft, and an eccentric rotatable with said toothed wheel and engaging in said aperture of said plate whereby movement is imparted to the plate for operating at least one of said hair clipper blades, a pair of spaced, substantially parallel spindles each mounted on one end in said hair clipper housing, said drive shaft being rotatable about one of said spindles, and said eccentric b'eing rotatable about the other of said spindles.

Claims (1)

1. A HAIR CLIPPER FOR A DRY SHAVER PROVIDED WITH A ROTARY DRIVING MEMBER AND A SHAVER HOUSING COMPRISING A HAIR CLIPPER HOUSING HAVING A SURFACE FOR ENGAGEMENT WITH A CORRESPONDING SURFACE ON SAID SHAVER HOUSING, RELATIVELY MOVABLE HAIR CLIPPER BLADES IN SAID HAIR CLIPPER HOUSING, AN APERTURED DRIVING PLATE IN SAID HAIR CLIPPER HOUSING, MEANS PIVOTALLY MOUNTING SAID DRIVING PLATE IN SAID HAIR CLIPPER HOUSING, A DRIVE SHAFT EXTENDING SUBSTANTIALLY AT RIGHT ANGLES TO THE PLANE OF SAID ENGAGEMENT SURFACE AND PASSING FREELY THROUGH SAID APERTURE IN SAID PLATE, SAID DRIVE SHAFT HAVING TEETH ON ONE SIDE OF THE PLATE, MEANS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF SAID PLATE FOR COUPLING SAID DRIVE SHAFT TO SAID ROTARY DRIVING MEMBER OF THE DRY SHAVER FOR ROTATION THEREWITH, A TOOTHED WHEEL MESHING WITH THE TEETH ON SAID DRIVE SHAFT, AND AN ECCENTRIC ROTATABLE WITH SAID TOOTHED WHEEL AND ENGAGING IN SAID APERTURE OF SAID PLATE WHEREBY MOVEMENT IS IMPARTED TO THE PLATE FOR OPERATING AT LEAST ONE OF SAID HAIR CLIPPER BLADES, SAID DRIVING PLATE BEING ELONGATED WITH SAID APERTURE IN THE MEDIAN PORTION THEREOF, SAID APERTURE BEING PROVIDED WITH AN EXTENSION IN THE FORM OF A SLOT, SAID ECCENTRIC BEING LOCATED IN SAID SLOT AND ENGAGING THE SIDES THEREOF.
