Abstract

1,057,551. Suspended ceilings. R. P. LICKLITER and E. ABBOTT. July 17, 1963 No. 28317/63. Heading E1W. In a grid for a suspended ceiling a support member 1 includes aligned sections 1', 1" spaced apart by a gap 15 and connected by a plate or a pair of plates 16, 17 clamped against the web 3 with a fusible shim 21 interposed therebetween so that fusing of the shim due to an abnormally high temperature of the support member causes relief of the clamping pressure, allowing relative movement between the sections 1, 1' to avoid buckling of the ceiling grid. The plates 16, 17 are secured by rivets or projections 19 passing through slots 18 in the web 3. Fusible shims may be provided on each side of the web 3. Transverse support members 2 secured to the support members 1 by locking components 12, 13 at their ends also include the expansion joint between the components 12, 13 at opposite ends thereof.
