Abstract

1,057,293. Reciprocating pumps. PETERS & RUSSELL Inc. Aug. 14, 1963, No. 32124/63. Heading F1A. In a bilge pump a diaphragm 23 is pivoted and reciprocated by an electric motor 35, Fig. 1, (not shown) which drives arm 27 through a flexible gear-tooth belt drive. Bilge water is drawn into base 1 through inlet passage 8 and passes through inlet valve 14 into the flow chamber beneath diaphragm 23 and is pumped out through an outlet valve to outlet passage 9. Passages 8, 9 are connected to surge chamber 42, Fig. 5, (not shown) having intersecting vertical baffles 45. One surge chamber passage communicates with a horizontal passage 48, Fig. 4 (not shown) having pressure switches 53 (not described). In a modification the surge chamber has superposed flexible diaphragms 49, 50, Fig. 6, (not shown) which form sealed chambers 51, 52.
