Abstract

1,057,220. Regulating I. C. engines. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Dec. 9, 1965 [Dec. 21, 1964], No. 52280/65. Heading F1B. [Also in Division G3] When the speed of an engine, as detected by the frequency of pulses from trigger circuit 54, is below the value set by resistor 82 in multivibrator 52, the average voltage applied to the base of transistor 90 is less than the emitter potential derived from voltage-divider 58, 60. Transistors 90, 92, are non-conductive so that wire 44 is de-energized. Thus orifice 36 is open, placing atmosphere pressure on both sides of diaphragm 22 and allowing spring 18 to maintain throttle valve 12 in the open position, Fig. 1, 2 (not shown). When the engine speed reaches the pre-set value, the wire 44 is energized, the amount of current passing through the wire determining the position of valve element 42 and consequently the position of the throttle valve. The chamber 28 on one side of the diaphragm 22 is connected to the engine air intake conduit and is also connected to atmosphere by way of the valve the operation of which is controlled by the wire.
