Abstract
A compound of the formula <FORM:1056284/C2/1> is obtained by reacting 1-chloromethyl-benzene-4-sulphonamid with an equimolecular amount of pyridine in aqueous medium or in excess pyridine at 80 DEG to 90 DEG C. A compound of the formula <FORM:1056284/C2/2> is similarly obtained by reacting pyridine and the sodium salt of 4-chloromethyl-41-methyl-diphenyl-disulphimide.ALSO:An acid nickel electroplating bath includes as levelling and brightening agent an organic compound free of lipophile radicals and having in the molecule at least one cyclic quaternary ammonium group G of the Formula. <FORM:1056284/C6-C7/1> where A represents the residue necessary to complete a heterocyclic radical, which group is bound through the free bond on the methylene radical by way of a methylene or a phenylene radical to a sulphonamide, sulphonimide or disulphimide group. The compounds which are sparingly soluble and are employed in amounts of from 0.05 to 5 g/1 may be introduced into the baths as in Specification 941, 823, e.g. using dissolving cages. In examples the heterocyclic rings are pyridine, quinoline and thiazole but reference also is made to isoquinoline, pyrimidine, and pyrazine. The compounds may be quaternary ammonium salts such as the chloride or the molecule may be electrically balanced by equal numbers of charged quaternary ammonium and imino nitrogen atoms. In the disulphimide compounds specified, either the - SO2 - radicals are connected via phenylene rings to identical groups G or one is so connected to a group G and the other is linked to a tolyl or acetamidophenyl group. Bis compounds also are disclosed in which two identical groups G are joined by a chain of 3 phenylene and 2 disulphimide groups (Examples 3,4 and formulae 4, 6 not shown). A compound is also disclosed in which the group G is connected via a methylene radical to the O-toluenesulphonamido radical.
