Ice-making apparatus comprises a set of annularly arranged refrigerated fins 13, a sump 15 below the fins and a pump 14 for withdrawing water from the sump and spraying it radially outwardly into contact with the fins. The upper edges of the fins are scalloped to provide good physical contact with refrigerating tubes 20 and, together with said tubes are enclosed in insulating material 21 supported on a plate 24 through which the fins 13 depend. The ice-blocks 34 formed on the fins are harvested by passing a heating medium through tubes 20 so that the blocks fall on to an annular deflector 17 which directs the blocks through the centre of an annular drip tray 16 and into a storage chamber 12. The upper edge 39 of the inner wall of drip tray 16 is spaced inwardly from and below the inner edge 39 of deflector 17 to define an annular slot 40 through which water falling on to the deflector 17 drains to drip tray 16. A conduit 42 connects the latter to an aperture 41 in the sump 15 to supply water thereto, conduit 42 also serving to support sump 15. The drip tray 16 is supplied with water at the beginning of each cycle through a connection at the rear of the tray (Fig. 2, not shown), an overflow conduit 50 being provided to limit the amount of water so supplied to a predetermined value. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown) deflector 17 is slotted and a flexible skirt is suspended from the outer periphery 44 of the sump 15 to prevent spray from passing to the storage chamber 12 while permitting the passage of iceblocks.
