Abstract
1,055,448. Cleaning buildings. CLAYTON MANUFACTURING CO. Oct. 11, 1963 [Nov 7, 1962], No. 40289/63. Heading A4F. [Also in Divisions F1 and F2] In a liquid heating system for a steam cleaner including a combined liquid and liquid fuel diaphragm pump (see Division F1) failure of the cleaner liquid flow prevents liquid fuel from flowing to the burner. An electric motor 11, Fig. 1, drives an eccentric 23 to reciprocate a rod 25 fixed to the diaphragm 87, Fig. 3 (not shown) of the combined pump 7. Water or a cleaning solution is drawn from tank 3 into chamber 79 via pipe 5, Fig. 4 (not shown), check valve 181 and passage 211. Liquid expelled from chamber 79 passes to a combined back pressure regulator and pulse absorber 29, Fig. 2 (not shown) via passage 211, check valve 207 and pipe 27. The regulator 29 has a drain cock 223 and an adjustable pressure relief valve 237. Liquid passes through passage 219 into a chamber 225 where increased pressure lifts a spring-loaded diaphragm 239 to allow passage of liquid through the heater to a discharge passage 45 fitted with a pressure gauge 49, a restrictor 48 and a cleaning gun 47. Pulsations in chamber 79 move diaphragm 77 thus causing fuel to be drawn from tank 65 through conduit 67 and ball valve 143 into chamber 81 and thence via ball valve 157, valve 70 to burner 61 for ignition by plug 63. The delivery pressure of fuel is controlled by an adjustably spring-loaded diaphragm 99, Fig. 3. In an application to a steam cleaner unit the system is mounted on a wheeled handtruck and draws the cleaning solution from a stationary tank or the system is mounted directly upon a stationary tank.
