Abstract
1,055,296. Air cushion vehicles. BERTIN & CIE. April 29, 1964 [April 29, 1963], No. 17881/64. Heading B7K. An air-cushion vehicle has a flexible skirt 2, and a porous partition 3, e.g. of woven or knitted fabric or metal gauze extending forwardly from the lower rear edge 2a of the skirt to help the skirt ride over obstacles. The partition may extend upwardly to be connected at 1c to a platform from which the skirt depends (Figs. 1 and 2, not shown) or to the front inner surface of the skirt. Alternatively the skirt may be circular in plan and the partition conical (Fig. 3, not shown), the apex of the cone being supported by a cable 7 and spring 6. The apical angle of the cone may be 180 degrees so that the partition is a plane. The partition may be fixed to the hem of the skirt by wire, rivets or bolts, which may also secure a strip of wear-resistant material such as P.V.C., or may be fixed by a slide fastening.
