Abstract
1,054,896. Hydraulic dampers. WESTLAND AIRCRAFT Ltd. April 7, 1965 [April 24, 1964], No. 17002/64. Heading F2S. A hydraulic damper, for rotor blade assemblies of aircraft, comprises a rigid cylindrical body 2 with an inner centrally-disposed web 3 having an inner bush 4 and which is closed at its ends by flexible wall elements 21, 22, the inner edges of the elements being secured to bell-shaped members 11, 14 carried by a first connector 10, which extends through a sleeve 6 slidable within the bore 5 of the bush 4, and the outer edges being clamped by bell-shaped outer wall extension members 16, 18, in grooves in the body 2, the outer wall member 18 being extended downwardly for connection to a second connector 20. A nut 13 clamps the inner edges of the members 11, 14 and the sleeve 6 against a shoulder 12 on the connector 10, a sealing ring 7 being accommodated in a groove 8 in the bore 5. Ports 26 are associated in diametric pairs 26, 26 mutually at right angles in the web 3 with flexible valve members 27, 28 disposed on opposite sides of the web 3 and retained by means of a rivet 29. Two further ports 30, 30 in the web are controlled by a needle valve and filler connection 33. In a modification, Fig. 4, not shown, the web 51 has ports 70, 70 controlled by a needle valve and filler connection 73 and two ports such as 68 each controlled by a one-way valve such as 69, the outer edges of the flexible wall elements 56, 57 being clamped in grooves in perimeter walls of the web 51 by means of a collar 62, a sleeve 63, and a locking ring 64. The flexible wall elements 56, 57 are connected to an outer cylindrical part 76, 77 which is carried by a connector member 75, the other connector member being connected to a pair of trunnions on the web, 51, the trunnions, not shown, projecting through slots in the outer cylinder 76, 77.
