Abstract

995,535. Valves. HOERBIGER VENTILWERKE A.G. May 20, 1964 [May 22, 1963], No. 20743/64. Heading F2V. A shuttle valve for pneumatic or hydraulic control systems comprises a housing 1 with a bore 2 in which a piston 3 with gaskets 12, 13 is axially slidable to control the connection between two feed ports 6, 7 and a discharge port 9, the distance between the gaskets 12, 13 being greater than the axial length of an enlargement 10 of the bore. Accidental communication between the two feed ports is thus prevented. Hollow extensions 16, 17 with cut-outs 18, 19 for the passage of fluid are formed integrally with end covers 4, 5 for the housing and protrude into recesses 14, 15 at opposite ends of the piston to serve as guides. Rubber or plastic washers 20, 21 serve both to seal the joints between the housing and its covers and to cushion the movement of the piston. In an alternative construction, the piston consists of two discs bolted to opposite ends of a rod guided in a sliding bearing formed in the enlargement of the housing.
