Abstract
1,082,140. Hydraulic actuators. CESSNA AIRCRAFT CO. April 12, 1966 [Nov. 22, 1965], No. 16044/66. Heading F1P. A hydraulic actuator comprises a piston 19 slidable in a cylinder 10 between abutments 14, 18 and having a cylinder seal 29 disposed between grooves 32, 33 so that when the piston is in either of its end positions the grooves align with cylinder ports 20, 22 or 21, 23 to provide restricted communication between chambers 36, 37 on opposite sides of the piston 19. The cylinder ports 20, 22 communicate through a fitting 24 connected by a line 44 and changeover valve 46 to a pump 45 or a reservoir 49. If the fitting 24 is connected to the pump 45 the piston moves away from ports 20, 22 and expels liquid through the ports 21, 23 into a fitting 25 connected by a conduit 12 to the inlet 38 of a slave cylinder 11 or to the fitting 24 of a second actuator. At the end of the piston stroke the grooves 32, 33 align with the ports 23, 21 whereby liquid can pass from chamber 36 to fitting 25 to ensure complete extension of the slave piston 40 if leakage of liquid has previously prevented complete extension. Check valves in the form of washers located in the fittings 24, 25 and covering the ports 22, 23 may be provided for preventing uneven extension or contraction in the event of the loads on the actuator and slave cylinder being very unequal.
