Abstract
1,053,071. Waveguide filters. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. March 10, 1964, No. 10013/64. Addition to 987,593. Heading H1W. A waveguide hybrid junction comprises a rectangular waveguide 1, Fig. 1, having in opposite broad faces resonant slots 4, 5 coupling the waveguide to branch waveguides 2, 3. The longitudinal axes of the slots lie at right-angles to each other and their centres lie in the same transverse cross-section of the main waveguide. The slots are not necessarily parallel to the edges of the waveguides and the branch guides are not necessarily parallel to the main guide, nor are they necessarily of the same dimensions as the main guide. The Specification gives an analysis of the arrangement in which the impedances of the slots are expressed in terms of the characteristic impedances of the branch guides and the distances of the slots from the edges of the guides. Energy within a given frequency is divided between waveguides 2, 3 where it propagates in both directions. A bandseparating filter is described in which resonantcavity filters centred on adjacent bands f 1 , f 2 are arranged respectively on either side of the slot in each of the branch waveguides in such a manner that the band f 1 appears at the righthand ports of the branch guides and the band f 2 at the left-hand ports.
