Abstract

1,046,277. Waveguide harmonic filters. COMPAGNIE FRANCAISE THOMSON-HOUSTON. July 3, 1963 [July 3, 1962], No. 26375/63. Heading H1W. A filter for absorbing parasitic signals, e.g. those propagated in unwanted higher modes, comprises a main waveguide 1 communicating with a number of auxiliary dissipative waveguides 2 stacked with their broad faces (dimension a) face to face. The auxiliary waveguides are dimensioned to be beyond cut-off within the pass-band of the filter. Higher frequencies within the rejection band are absorbed by dissipative loads 3. In order to counteract the effect of the auxiliary guides upon the impedance of the main guide within the pass band, -the latter is provided with a thick conductive septum 4 extending between the narrow walls. In the modification of Fig. 2a (not shown), which uses a coaxial line instead of a main waveguide, the same result is achieved by providing discs 6 on the inner conductor opposite each of the auxiliary guides 2. The filter may consist of several sections each having auxiliary guides of different dimensions and discs 6 of different diameter. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 903,889.
