Abstract
1,052,538. Casings for electric motors; fluid actuation of switches. FRANKLIN ELECTRIC CO. Inc. April 8, 1964 [Aug. 13, 1963], No. 14604/64. Headings H2A and H2B. [Also in Division G3] The operation of motor 10, used to drive a pump is controlled in accordance with liquid level by switch 43 which operates as float 21, enclosing both motor and switch, rises and falls. The conventional over-centre snap-action switch 43 is mounted on carrying handle assembly 29 which in turn is attached to bosses 34 on the motor end bell by screws 39 and is operated by saddle 66 which is rigidly attached to float 21 such that with operating arm 44 down, the motor is switched-off. As the liquid level rises the float rises until arm 44 contacts spring-loaded stud 71, further rise of liquid causes arm 44 to be lifted still further until the switch snaps over and the motor is switched-on. As the liquid level falls, arm 44 drops down until it switches the motor off, the operating point of the switch being adjusted by altering the compression of spring 79. Flexible seals 40, 26 at the top and bottom of the float are used to seal the float to the motor/switch assembly, whilst allowing vertical movement of the float. The handle and switch assembly are mounted to be easily removed for maintenance by unscrewing screws 39.
