Abstract
1,052,103. Purifying exhaust gases. ENGELHARD INDUSTRIES Inc. Feb. 5, 1964 [Feb. 7, 1963], No.5000/64. Heading F1B. Exhaust gases flow from an entry chamber 13 through parallel passages in a ceramic-catalytic element 16 to an outlet chamber 15. Baffles 17, 18 may be provided in chamber 13 and in a modification Fig. 3 (not shown) the gases enter a central chamber 13 and flow sideways to two outlet chambers 15. The element 16 comprises a porous ceramic support material in which is formed the horizontal flow passages 20, a catalytic material such as platinum or palladium or a metal oxide.
