Abstract

1,050,750. Selective perforating apparatus. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. Sept. 24, 1965 [Oct. 30, 1964], No. 40721/65. Heading B4B. Dictating equipment 1 comprises apparatus 20 for perforating an index strip 21 in either of two channels, the apparatus including spring- biased punches 27, 28 and a transparent backing member 24 having slots 25, 26 corresponding to the channels, each punch being so constructed that it penetrates the strip during movement in one direction and shears off the edges of the opening thus made in the strip during return movement in the opposite direction. The punches are mounted in an opening 31 in a stripper 30 and are operable either manually or by a pivotally-mounted bail 34 which is operatively connected to the plungers 40, 41 of solenoids 42, 43 controlled by a switch 16 in a hand set 3 connected by a cable 2 to the equipment 1. The stripper may have a transverse opening through which punchings pass to the exterior of the apparatus. In a modification, Fig. 8 (not shown), the punches are arranged coaxially of the solenoids.
