Abstract
1,049,835. Converting rotary motion into reciprocatory motion. DOMINION ENGINEERING WORKS Ltd. July 15, 1963, [May 27, 1963], No. 27917/63. Heading F2K. [Also in Division D2] In a shaker mechanism, e.g. for shaking a Fourdrinier table in a paper making machine, rotation of a hollow input shaft 11 is converted into combined rotary and reciprocatory motion of an output shaft 18 supported within the hollow shaft 11 by bearings 19, by means of an inclined secondary shaft 23 connected to the input shaft 11 by a universal (e.g. Hooke's or constant-velocity ratio type) joint 29 and to the output shaft 18 by a link 33 joined by ball joints 34 to an arm 32 on the shaft 23 and to an arm 30 rigid with the shaft 18. The secondary shaft 23 is rotatably mounted in a housing 25 having pivot arms 26 carrying trunnions 27 pivoted in bearings 28 in opposite walls of a two-part casing 13, 14, the common pivotal axis of the trunnions 27 passing through the centre of the universal joint 29. To vary the stroke of the reciprocatory output, the inclination 35 of the secondary shaft 23 relative to the shafts 11, 18 is adjustable by screw means 37. The input shaft 11 carries a driving pulley 17, and the output shaft 18 is connected by a twoway thrust bearing 47 to a non-rotary, reciprocable shaft 46 connected a member being shaken, e.g. a Fourdrinier shake rail 48.
