Abstract

1,049,646. Heating and cooling buildings. D. R. HILL. Oct. 12, 1964 [Oct. 11, 1963; Jan. 23, 1964], Nos. 40262/63 and 2924/64. Headings F4U and F4V. In a heating system for buildings, warm air is forced upwardly by a fan through a trunk 23 into a cavity 16 within the ceiling and down through vertical cavities 24a in the walls to grills 35 at floor level where the warm air is discharged into the room. The air is heated by means of an electric, oil, solid fuel or gas heater and its flow is diverted by a bell-shaped baffle 22 so that the air may be directed horizontally in all directions. The cavities are bounded by outer liners 26, 17 in the form of panels of heat insulating material and inner panels 25, 18 of either wall or ceiling material. The outer and inner panels are spaced by discs 27 or by battens 40 secured to the walls and projecting inwardly of the outer liners (Fig. 3, not shown), or by vertically corrugated spacers 45 (Fig. 5, not shown). Alternatively vertical ridges may be formed on the inner faces of the outer panels (Fig. 4, not shown) to form vertical channels 41.
