Abstract
1,049,158. Prestressed concrete. G. K. N. REINFORCEMENTS Ltd. July 29, 1944 [July 2, 1963], No. 26146/63. Heading E1V. [Also in Division G1] In apparatus for applying a compressive stress to a concrete structure, e.g. a beam, there is provided a bar 9 extending through a plastics sleeve 15 and formed with threads 10, 11 of differing pitch provided with nuts 6, 7 in abutment with load distributing plates 1 engaging both surfaces 2 of the structure 3 to be stressed. The nut 6 is formed with feet 13 which engage the surface of the plate 1, so that on tightening the nut the feet undergo plastic deformation such as to uniformly close the gap 14 between the base of the nut and the plate 1. The tensile load may be determined by measuring the gap 14 by means of a feeler gauge.
