633,555. Moulding concrete articles. COMPAGNIE INTERNATIONALE DES PIEUX ARMES FRANKIGNOUL SOC. ANON. Oct. 18, 1946, No. 31072. Convention date, Nov. 6, 1945. [Class 87 (ii)] Concrete articles such as railway sleepers and beams which have to be shaped accurately are first moulded in any manner and then, after being removed from the mould before the concrete has completely hardened are subjected to compressive stress to modify and correct their shape, pressure being maintained until the concrete has completely hardened. Thus, in a concrete bracket 1 (for a railway sleeper) the angular disposition x of the face 6 and the distance b between a sole plate 2 and the face are to be reproduced with accuracy. To apply the required stress a plate 8 is fixed in the 'correct angular position (i.e. x = 90 degrees) to a rod 7 which is passed through a hole 5 in the bracket and carries a nut 10 and washer 9 at its opposite end. The nut is tightened until the distance b is correct. In the hollow beam 11, Fig. 2, the length l and the angular disposition of the faces 12, 13 are corrected by means of plates 16, 18 fixed respectively to a tube 15 and a rod 17 telescopically engaged. Nut 19 is tightened until the tube 15, which acts as a gauge, abuts the plate 18. The plates 8, 16, 18 conform to the desired contours of the faces they lie against, which are not necessarily flat.
