Abstract

[Also in Divisions G1 and H4] A pressure transducer comprises an elongated body of semi-conductor material rigidly fixed over one part but free to bend elsewhere, a free part of the body being arranged to move in accordance with the pressures to be transduced so as to affect the electrical characteristics of a semi-conductor device (e.g. a planar transistor) having at least one PN junction and contained in the body at least partly between this free part and the fixed part. A second similar semiconductor device unaffected by the pressures to be transduced may be provided as a reference element either in the same body (Fig. 3, not shown) or in a second body alongside the first (Fig. 4, not shown), and the sensitivity of the transducer may be increased by providing two devices on opposite faces of the same body. Circuits are described suitable for use in a microphone and for producing a train of impulses having a frequency which depends on the pressure (Fig. 6, not shown).
