Abstract
1,048,965. Jet propulsion nozzles. ANSTALT FUR DIE ENTWICKLUNG VON ERFINDUNGEN UND GEWERBLICHEN ANWENDUNGEN ENERGA. March 23, 1964 [March 27, 1963], No. 12221/64. Heading F1J. A propulsion nozzle for a solid fuel rocket comprises, mounted in a casing 3, a nozzle body 1 having an axial, bore 4 with an annular rib 7 at the entry 5. The body 1 is of low thermal conductivity chrome-nickel steel (Cr 17 to 19%, Ni 7 to 10%), such that combustion of the propellent causes the rib 7 to be eroded by the combustion gases at a rate dependent on the ambient temperature. Thus the flow area at the rib 7 increases to correspond with the faster rate of burning of the propellent at higher ambient temperatures. The axial length h of the rib 7 is less than 20% of the nozzle diameter D.
