Abstract

1,048,767. Press plates. I. LUDWIG, [trading as WAGENER & CO. MASCHINENFABRIK]. Sept. 2, 1963 [Sept. 4, 1962], No. 34549/63. Headings B5A and B5F. A press plate for use in joining the ends of, or repairing, conveyer belts, comprises a central heated and cooled region I and two edge regions II which are permanently cooled. These prevent heat from the central working region affecting the adjacent regions of the belt. The press plate comprises: a backing plate 1, which extends over regions I and II; a pressure plate 2, which contacts the material to be worked and extends over region I only; and two side plates 9, made of a heat-insulating material, which are in alignment with plate 2 and which extend over regions II only. The plates are separated by internal members 4, frame members 7 and external members 8 and the heating and/or cooling is effected by pipes 5 and 6. The heat-insulating material for plates 9 may be hard asbestos and/or hard paperboard.
