Abstract

1,048,683. Seaming non-metallic sheet material. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Oct. 25, 1963 [Dec. 4, 1962], No. 45832/62. Heading B5K. [Also in Division E1] Adjacent sheets 1, 2 of rigid thermoplastic polymeric material, e.g. polyvinyl chloride, are joined by placing together areas at the edges of the sheets at least one of which areas constitutes a flange 3 or 4 formed on the edge of one of the sheets and placing over the edge of the sheets thus brought together a channelsectioned member 6 which acts to clip the sheets together. The sheets may be cemented together at the interface 5, e.g. by means of a solution of polyvinyl chloride in a suitable solvent, and the channel member 6 may itself be cemented similarly to the outer faces of the flanges 3, 4. A fillet of matching material 9 may be welded into the joint crevice and sanded down to present a flush surface. The channel member 6 is shaped so that its sides 7, 8 converge towards their free ends (Fig. 3, not shown). The distance between its sides at the free and closed ends being respectively less than and greater than the combined thickness of the sheets. Corner joints and joints between two or more sheets in the same or different planes may beformed (Figs. 4, 5, 6, hot shown). Resilient demountable joints may be made in which the sheets and clip member are separated by strips of silicone rubber and are not cemented together (Fig. 6, not shown). The method is stated to be of particular application to prefabricated walls and partitions for buildings.
