Abstract

1407655 Flooring STATENS SKOGSINDUSTRIER AB 22 Feb 1973 [25 Feb 1972] 8642/73 Heading E1B A composite element for flooring comprises a relatively thin sheet of fibreboard 1 bonded to a thicker resilient layer of insulating material 2, e.g. of a styrene foam plastics, wherein adjacent elements are joined by a tongue and groove formed partly in the sheet 1 and partly in the circulating material 2. The tongue is wider than the groove to hold the fibre-board sections tightly together while the adhesive sets, and the tongue and groove are tapered to prevent the adhesive being wiped off during assembly. In a modification, Fig 2, not shown, instead of a lap joint an insert plate (3), placed underneath the sheet (1), forms part of the tongue and this is adhesively secured to the upper edge of the groove formed by the entire thickness of the sheet (1) on the adjacent element.
