Abstract

1,048,612. Vibratory mechanisms. GENERAL MILLS Inc. Jan. 21, 1964 [Jan. 25, 1963], No. 2632/64. Heading F2X. An oscillator for producing a vibratory force comprises a pair of parallel shafts 48, 50 rotated in opposite senses at the same speed, a pair of weights 96, 110 driven by the shafts and phased 180 degrees apart, a sleeve 80 mounted for axial sliding movement on each shaft and rotatable with the latter, a linkage 98, 100 connecting each sleeve to the associated weight so that movement of the sleeve causes radial adjustment of the weight, a cross-arm 78 connected with both of the sleeves, and control means 68 to move the cross-arm and the sleeves simultaneously. The weights are guided on pins 94 and have a grooved face 112 to receive the drive shaft at their minimum radial adjustment. A slot 104 in a support member 106 guides the pivot-pin 102 of the linkage and gearing 118, 120, 122, 124 interconnects the drive shafts, one of which is connected by a belt to an electric motor. The oscillator may be connected direct to a conveyer, screen, feeder or oven or indirectly by the use of an intermediate frame on spring supports. In a modified construction of the oscillator (Fig. 6, not shown), each weight is connected to the centre pivot of a pair of links having their ends secured to a pair of relatively adjustable sleeves.
