Abstract
1,048,422. Automatic control of vehicles. INSTITUT ZA MEHANIZACIJU POLJOPRIVREDE N.R.S. Aug. 8, 1963 [Aug. 11, 1962], No. 31293/63. Heading B7H. A tractor is provided with means to compare the peripheral speeds of a sensing wheel and the driving wheels or tracks and hence to alter the depth and draught load of a tractor borne implement to keep slip within a predetermined limit. In Fig. 1 wheel 13 drives a shaft 6 on which is mounted member 5 with an external helical thread engaged by gear 3 driven by gearwheel 1 secured to tractor drive shaft 2. On slipping of the tractor wheels or tracks gear 3 moves axially on member 5 moving lever 15 to adjust the draught load. At the limits of its travel gear 3 engages springs 17 on end plates 16 and the spring-loaded balls 9 rise from the depressions 8 in shaft 6 to act as a clutch and disconnect member 5 from shaft 6 thus preventing damage to the device. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown) gear 3 disengages from a threaded portion of shaft 6 when the velocity ratio remains incorrect, springs 17 returning the gear 3 when the correct ratio is regained. Alternatively (Fig. 3, not shown) the ground wheel 9 and tractor shaft 2 respectively drive the ring gear 6 and planet carrier of a planetary gear the sun-wheel of which drives a clutch controlled hydraulic pump 13 to displace fluid in cylinder 15<SP>1</SP> to control the position of piston 14<SP>1</SP> and hence the draught load. The inputs from the ground wheel and drive shaft may alternatively drive a differential gear the camshaped casing of which engages a control lever (Figs. 5, 5a, not shown).
