Abstract

1,048,386. Magnetic compositions. WESTERN ELECTRIC CO. Inc. July 25, 1963 [July 31, 1962], No. 29439/63. Heading H1H. A method of making a ferrite material having a rectangular hysteresis loop and low coercivity comprises preparing a slurry consisting of oxides (or oxide yielding compounds) in the proportions 4-67 mol. per cent manganese oxide, 8-55 mol. per cent magnesium oxide, 25-50 mol. per cent ferric oxide and 0-18 mol. per cent zinc oxide, together with 0À075 to 0À3% by weight of calcium in the form of a soluble salt, drying the slurry, calcining for 2-16 hours at a temperature between 800‹ C. and 1100‹ C.; ball milling, adding a binder, granulating, compressing under 5000 to 50,000 lb/ square inch, firing in an oxygen atmosphere at between 1200‹ C. and 1350‹ C. for 7-15 hours and cooling to room temperature in nitrogen. The soluble calcium salt (e.g. calcium acetate) enables the calcium to be thoroughly dispersed during slurrying.
