Abstract

104,790. Bellard, A. May 19, 1916. Breech actions, sliding breech - b l o c k ; stocks; aiming - rests; firing-appliances. - Relates to lever mecha. nism, carried by an auxiliary stock,- for operating the bolt of a rifle from cover, in which the mechanism is operated, both for the rotary a n d sliding movement of the bolt, by a single handle. According to the invention, the mechanism is so constructed and arranged that the operating-handle is close to the trigger of the auxiliary stock. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the mechanism comprises a rotary sliding rod 5 mounted on the auxiliary stock and carrying at the front projecting lugs 11, which are connected to the bolt handle 16 by a link 13 comprising two side pieces and strengthening-struts 14. The rod 5 is operated by a handle 9 at the rear, and its rotary and sliding movements are communicated to the breech-bolt by the link 13. In a modification, Fig. 6, a single lever 23 is connected to the bolt handle 22 and is pivoted to the auxiliary stock in such a way that it has a limited sliding movement. To open the breech, the lever 23 is first pushed up longitudinally and then swung forwards. In another modification, Fig. 10, the lever 23, pivoted to the auxiliary stock, is connected to the bolt handle 22 by a short link 35. The auxiliary stock may be provided with a projection 31, Fig. 6, adapted to rest between side plates 32, Figs. 6 and 9, carried by a telescopic support 33.
