A coupler assembly for medical gas or vacuum circuits comprises in connection with a gas supply 17 a socket 14 including a valve assembly 25, 27, normally closed, but opened when a hollow probe-like plug 15 is inserted into the socket wherein a slot 66 around the plug is engaged by detents 23 retractable from their coupling position by manually rotating a sleeve 37 on the socket; the sleeve having a keyway 62 engageable with a key 61 in an annular space 40 formed between radially spaced coaxial flanges on the socket whose radial positions and thicknesses are standard for all sockets intended for use with one gas or service so that the space 40 will only accept the correct plug. The valve part 27 is contained in a coupling member wherein is a coil spring which urges the part 27 against a seating on an annular washer 25 between the socket and its support 16. A flange 31 on the member 26 is retained against the banjo fitting 16 on the end of the supply pipe 17 by screws (not shown) around its periphery, thus allowing the whole socket 14 some degree of angular adjustment. The socket is located in a box 11 in the wall 10, the access aperture 13 in the front plate 12 normally being closed by a shutter plate 71. The pipeline 65 leading to an apparatus is connected to the cranked end of the cranked socket pipe 6 on which an additional handle may be provided.
