Abstract

1,047,746. Control of A.C. motors. SATCHWELL CONTROLS Ltd. Sept. 3, 1965 [June 18, 1964], No. 25275/64. Heading H2J. A shaded pole squirrel cage induction motor has a control winding short-circuited through a rectifier and a rheostat, by which the braking effect of the winding and hence motor speed is regulated. The control winding may be an extension of the main winding, but preferably is separate. The motor drives a fan, e.g. in an air conditioning system and the rheostat may be automatically operated mechanically or hydraulically in response to temperature.
