Abstract

1,047,717. Knitting machines. L. H. COLTON. Aug. 27, 1963 [Sept. 5, 1962], No. 34028/62. Heading D1C. [Also in Division H4] A television camera 22 is traversed across a textile web D immediately that it is formed and the images received of the fabric structure are displayed on a screen at a control station. As shown in a warp knitting machine the camera 22 is supported on a member 21 movable longitudinally on a member 20 secured to a chain 19. Chain 19 is supported on cogs 16, 17 keyed on spindles 15, 16 carried on brackets 12, 13 on the machine Fig. 2 (not shown). Secured to camera 22 is a roller guide member 24 which engages a slotted bar 25 located on brackets 12, 13. Electrical contact is made with the camera member 42 by engagement with a contact member 27 carried on brackets 12, 13. At the monitoring station, there are cathode ray tubes having screens 29, 30, 31 each with two control buttons one controlling the stop/start mechanism of the machine and if desired the motor driving chain 19 and the other controlling either the motor driving chain 19 or a separate motor to move the camera slowly in the opposite direction from normal. Screens 29, 30, 31 Fig. 5 (not shown) may be monitored by photo electric devices 39, 40, 41 which effect switching operations to stop the machine and, if desired, sound a warning. The camera may view the webs of two machines in succession being either moved across or rotated between the two machines, at the same time being obscured or de-energized if desired. A symbol will appear on the screen indicating which machine is being monitored. A fugitive marking may be applied to the warps on the beam indicating that the yarn supply is almost exhausted so as to give a warning on the monitoring screen.
