Abstract
1,047,428. Treating synthetic fibres. NIPPON RAYON CO. Ltd. Aug. 27, 1963 [Sept. 5, 1962; Sept. 18,1962], No; 33826/63. Headings D1F and D1P. [Also in Division B5] Synthetic fibres are set by impregnation with liquid, followed by subjection to a temperature of less than 0‹C. The fibres may be in the form of staple fibres, filaments, thread yarns mixed and crimped yarns and may comprise polyamide, polyvinyl alcohol, polyester, polyacrylonitrile, polyurethane, polyurea, polyolefin, polyvinyl chloride and polyvinylidene chloride fibres. In a preferred method, the fibres are impregnated with an inorganic liquid, e.g. water, or with an organic liquid e.g. aniline and alcohols having 1-5 carbon atoms e.g. methyl alcohol or with a mixture of an organic and an inorganic liquid, and then subjected to a temperature less than the freezing point, preferably a temperature of -10 to -70‹C. and especially - 10 to -55‹C. Treatment times of ¢ to1 hour are desirable. Setting so effected is stable. Yarns twisted in the S- and Z- directions may be so treated, one yarn detwisted, and the two united to form a crimped yarn.
