Abstract

An artificial latex of a homo and/or copolymer is prepared from a synthetic latex of polymer by a process in which successively (a) the synthetic latex is wholly or partly frozen and is before, after or during freezing brought into contact with an organic liquid in which the polymer is soluble, (b) the cold mixture is wholly or partly thawed, (c) the polymer solution formed is emulsified in the water phase and (d) the organic liquid is removed from the dispersion. Organic liquids specified are halogenated or non-halogenated hydrocarbons, methylcyclohexane being used in the examples, all of which treat a butadiene-styrene rubber latex.
