In a conveyer system including a main conveyer track 11, Fig. 2, along which loadcarrying trolleys are propelled by dogs depending from an endless driven chain above the track 11, and at least one branch or storage track 12 from which trolleys may be fed to the main track 11 or vice versa, there is provided in the region of the junction of the tracks 11, 12 a transfer means adapted on operation positively to propel a trolley from the track 12 and on to the track 11 or vice versa, the transfer means including an endless chain 13 having spaced depending pusher and retainer dogs (not shown) to co-operate with any trolley to be transferred and a fluid-pressure-operated ram 22, 23 adapted to be actuated when a transfer operation is to be effected to cause an appropriate movement to be imparted to the chain 13. The latter runs around sprockets 14, 15 on vertical shafts 16, 17. The shafts also carry smaller sprockets 18, 19 around which runs an endless chain 20 tensioned by a jockey pulley 21 the chain 20 being coupled to the ram rod 22 of the pneumatic or hydraulic ram 23. The operation of the ram is controlled by a switch or sensing device (not shown) at a position preceding the junction and arranged to be actuated to initiate a transfer operation in the event that there is an appropriate empty space on the main track 11 into which a trolley may be fed from the track 12.
