Abstract

A process for applying a material, which at ambient temperature tends to agglomerate, to the exposed surfaces of an object e.g. bandage material for the purpose of forming a finish coating on the exposed surfaces comprises the steps of forming the material into a discrete material of finely divided particles, subjecting the particles to a temperature below 0 DEG C., to keep them deflocculated, and applying the particles to the exposed surfaces while maintaining them at the said temperature, then elevating the temperature of the particles in order to permit them to agglomerate and to set. Cold thermosetting powder, e.g. urethane resin, is deposited from a gaseous medium, e.g. air, on prechilled nylon or rayon filaments in a loose mass. The treated mass is placed in plastic bags, where it is cured to impart shape, springiness and resilience to the mass. The mass, with or without the bag, may be applied as a bandage. Alternatively in use, the mass is chilled, additional cold thermosetting powder is applied and then the mass is applied over gauze to the limb of a patient and covered with gauze. After setting of the resin at ambient or elevated temperature, the exterior gauze is removed and the mass is left on the limb as a cast, which is porous.
