Abstract

A homogeneous rubber mixture is prepared by forming a mixture of a solution of a first natural or synthetic rubber in a hydrocarbon solvent and a latex of a second natural or synthetic rubber in the presence of a latex unstabilizing agent and then removing the solvent, dewatering and drying. The first rubber may be polybutadiene, polyisoprene, butyl rubber or ethylene-propylene and may be obtained directly by solution polymerization while the second may be butadiene/styrene or /acrylonitrile rubber and may be obtained directly by emulsion polymerization. Either mixture may contain carbon black and/or an extender oil and/or at least one other compounding agent. The dried mixed rubber may be mixed with at least one compounding agent and may be vulcanized.
