Abstract

Synthetic rubber is obtained from a synthetic rubber latex which has been prepared in the presence of an iron compound, by adding to the latex one or more complex-forming substances in an amount sufficient to combine as a complex with the iron present in the latex. The complex-forming substance may be added in amount from 0,1 to 4% (based on the rubber), preferably 0,2 to 2%. The polymer may be preferred by emulsion polymerization and short-stopped at 60 to 70% conversion the complexing agent be added together with or just before the short-stopping agent. Specified rubbers are butadiene copolymers with styrene or acrylonitrile or methyl methacrylate while ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid, N-hydroxyethylethylene diaminetriacetic acid, N-hydroxyethyl propylene diamine triacetic acid, isopropanol diamine tetraacetic acid, diethylene triamine pentaacetic acid, nitrilo-triacetic acid, methylene diphosphenic acid, and phosphonacetic acid, oxalic acid, citric acid and thioglycolic acid.
