Abstract
1,045,967. Ignition systems. PAL-MAGNETON, NARODNI PODNIK. Aug. 29, 1963 [Sept. 4, 1962], No. 34280/63. Heading F1B. An ignition device for multi-cylinder internalcombustion engines comprises at least two switching circuits each of the circuits including at least one step up transformer one circuit being coupled to the spark plugs associated with every other cylinder according to the firing order and the other circuit being coupled to the remaining spark plugs, the circuits being coupled to each other so that when one of the circuits is rendered conducting through an impulse from a timing transmitter the other circuit is rendered non-conducting and vice versa whereby when one or the other of the switching circuits stops conducting the variation of current in the primary winding of the associated step up transformer induces a voltage in the secondary winding which is fed to the appropriate spark plugs. In Fig. 1 on opening of the contacts of the contact breaker 16 the transistor 11 cuts off and the current in the primary winding 18 is cut off. This results in a rapid collapse of the magnetic field which induces a voltage in the secondary winding 20. At the same time however, the transistor 10 starts conducting. After reclosing of the contacts of the contact breaker 16 the transistor 10 stops conducting. Fig. 2 shows a modification in which alternating current is generated by a transistor associated with a transformer 30 and with a disc 38 comprising alternate metallic and non-metallic sections. This current rectified by a rectifier 36 controls the apparatus 37. In another modification there are four ignition transformers supplying six sparking plugs. In a further modification a disc similar to the disc 38 is associated with a coil instead of a transformer. The circuit supplies eight sparking plugs. Timing may be controlled by induction manifold vacuum and by a centrifugal mechanism.
