Abstract
1,045,739. Transferring liquid cargoes. EMCO BRASS MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd. Aug. 28, 1963 [Sept. 19, 1962], No. 35707/62. Heading B8E. Apparatus for transferring liquid cargoes comprising a rigid jib tube 1 and a drop arm tube 3 is provided with first and second counterbalancing weight 25, 30 arranged to maintain balance whatever the position of the drop arm 3 relative to the jib arm 1. The tube 1 is mounted for pivotal movement in a vertical plane about a support 2 arranged to permit swivelling movement and the drop arm 3 can pivot in the same vertical plane about the end of the jib arm tube 1. First, counterweights 25 mounted on a framework 15 forming an extension connected to the jib tube 1 balance the apparatus when the drop arm 3 hangs vertically from the jib arm. Second, counterweights 30 mounted on supports 29 on a Y-shaped arm 27 pivoted on the jib support are connected by a rigid shaft 44 to arms 41 forming an extension of the drop arm 3. With the jib tube 1 a rigid pivotally connected parallelogram is formed so that if the drop arm 3 is moved from the vertical the counterweights will be correspondingly moved to provide a compensating moment about the jib arm support to maintain the apparatus in balance.
