Abstract

1,045,504. Extruding. FARBEL CORPORATION. Aug. 12, 1965 [April 28, 1965], No. 34557/65. Heading B3P. A dummy block 25, Fig. 1 (not shown), for a metal extrusion press is of generally cylindrical shape and has a front face 26 with a plane annular portion adjacent its periphery and a dished central portion 27. This enables air and lubricant to be trapped between the billet and dummy block to facilitate separation of the discard and also to prevent over-heating of the dummy block. The latter has a peripheral land 28 at its forward end and is secured to the hollow press stem 10 by a long stud 12 which has a pilot land 20 fitting the base of the stem and threaded ends 22, 14. The rear end 14 screws into a nut 16 held against rotation by a dowel 17. Reference is made to the extrusion of aluminium, brass and bronze.
