Abstract
<PICT:1045355/C6-C7/1> A bi-functional cathodic tool used for the electrolytic erosion of an electrically conductive workpiece has a non-conductive member having an abrasive periphery and at least one of the faces adjacent thereto coated with an electrically conductive material whereby material is removed from the workpiece by contact of the abrasive periphery therewith, and resultant burrs are removed by electrolytic erosion, the electrically conducting coating on the tool forming the counter electrode. In the embodiment shown the tool comprises a porous grinding wheel 21 having an electrically conductive coating 22 upon one face, and being rigidly maintained upon a rotatable partially hollow hub 27. Electrolyte is supplied to the interior of the hub from a reservoir by the pipe 9, and passes from the hub through a plurality of orifices 35 to a recess 36 in the wheel and thence flows through the pores of the grinding wheel to the periphery thereof, under the centrifugal action of the rotating wheel. Electric current is supplied to the wheel via a brush 32, the hub 27 being metallic. In flowing through the pores of the grinding wheel the electrolyte also serves as a cooling fluid.
