Abstract

1,031,806. Spark erosion. COMPAGNIE DE SAINT-GOBAIN. Nov. 15, 1963, No. 45159/63. Heading B3Y. [Also in Division G3] A number of apertures are formed in a metal workpiece 1 by spark erosion using a number of groups of electrodes 4, 5, each supplied by its own charge and discharge circuit. The workpiece 1 is immersed in a bath 3 of dielectric liquid and the electrodes are mounted on a common head 7 whose position is adjusted by a motor 9 controlled by resistors 14, 15 and diodes 16, 17 to maintain a constant spark gap in response to the mean potential between the electrodes and workpiece. The electrode groups 4, 5 are supplied from separate condensers 12, 13 charged with direct current from terminals 10, 11, resistors 22, 23. Alternatively, separate supply sources may be used for the two circuits. At the beginning of the erosion operation the electrodes are vibrated. The workpiece 1 is of particular use in the extrusion of filaments and fibres of synthetic resin.
