Abstract

A process for making a ferric oxide coated powder which may be converted into a ferrite comprises depositing ferric oxide directly upon a support consisting of a finely divided divalent metal oxide suspended in an aqueous medium comprising an aqueous solution of ferrous sulphate containing free metallic iron and stirring the mixture while blowing air therethrough. The reaction is carried out at between 50 DEG and 80 DEG C., preferably 75 DEG C. The quantities of reagents are such that the mixture contains not more than 120 g. of ferric oxide coated powder per litre per litre of solution. The product is filtered and washed and then stamped or pressed, with or without a binder, and finally heated to convert it to a ferrite.
