Abstract

A process for making porous metal for filters, gas distributors, catalysts, catalyst carriers &c. comprises intimately mixing a metal powder having a melting point above 350 DEG C., e.g. nickel, copper, iron, silver and their alloys, with a powder of polymerized methyl methacrylate or polystyrene, and subjecting the mixture to a temperature which depolymerizes and drives off the resin, and which is sufficient to sinter the metal powder, with or without prior pressing of the mixture to a compact.
