Abstract
1,044,721. Track brakes for rail vehicles. HEINRICH SCHARF G.m.b.H. Jan. 9, 1964 [Aug. 8, 1963], No. 1013/64. Heading F2E. [Also in Division B7] A braking device for cableoperated rail vehicles, e.g. in mines and quarries, comprises a slidable member 19, in the chassis 10 of the vehicle, to which member the cable ends 16, 17 are attached, springs 20 acting on the slidable member and a trigger device 29 which, when tripped, releases drop catches 14 which catch against the rail track or stick into the ground so that the vehicle is braked. The tripping occurs when the cable breaks. The cables 16, 17 are anchored to the slide member 19 and arranged so that both hold it in opposition to the force of the springs 20. The drop catches 14 are normally held up by bolts 25. The trigger device 29 is a two-armed lever attached to cable 30 which is also attached to the bolts 25. On breakage of either cable the springs 20 move the slidable member to the two-armed lever 29 which rotates and pulls the cable 30 to cause the bolts 25 to release the drop catches 14. A push-rod 28 is provided to compensate for possible elongation of the cable 30. For overhead tracks the catches 14 are biased upwardly by springs (Fig. 3, not shown).
