Material to be dried, e.g. loose wool or fibres A, is conveyed by air-permeable endless belts 14, 19 between rubber-coated press-rolls 1 ... 4, each of which has an end wall (not shown) at each end to form an air-tight chamber 6 enclosed by the rollers and boards to which chamber is fed compressed air. In operation the compressed air passes to atmosphere through the portion of material held between the rollers and carries off the moisture from the material. In further embodiments Figs. 6 and 7, press rollers of different sizes may be utilized. The rollers are driven by intermeshing gearing at the same peripheral speeds in opposing directions.
