Abstract

1,044,400. Book racks. A. R. PERINI. Nov. 9, 1964 [June 30, 1964], No. 45637/64. Heading A4U. A collapsible book rack comprises a first frame A with legs 10 joined by rods 18, 24, a second frame B with legs 22 joined by rods 26, 28, 30, 32, the legs 10 and 22 being mortised, as at 12 and 34, to releasably interengage into an X-shaped relationship, and a pair of slides 50 serving as book clamps and being slidably engaged on and between the upper rods 18, 26 of the frames A, B, one upper rod 26 being manually rotatable by a lever 46 and being formed on one side with a plurality of notches 36 which are selectively engaged by a leaf spring 66 (Fig. 3) anchored to each slide 50 thereby to lock the slide 50 on the rod 26. The leaf spring 66 is disengageable from the notch 36 by screw means 74 threaded into the bushed end 72 of the slide 50 and bearing on the spring 66. The legs 10, 22 are releasably locked together by means of a spring urged latch 80 carried on one leg 10 which engages a kerb on the other leg 22. The rack is foldable after disengaging the legs 10, 22 by pivoting the frames A, B on the upper rods 18, 26 whereby in the folded position the slides 50 are sandwiched between the frames A, B. Extensions 16 on the upper rod 18 of frame A facilitate hanging of the folded rack. The extended rack may be supported on a wall by supports engaging extensions 16, 33 on the upper rods 18, 26.
